Pecans: The Right Way to Eat Nuts

Do you remember when you tried to roast a big slice of meat? Do you recall the fat that dripped from the meat onto the coals on your grill? Can you still imagine the heat that came from the piles of coal that you prepared under that slab of meat? Can you still remember that wonderful smell that wafted throughout the house every time you held a barbecue party?
If you can, then you know what it takes for something to roast. Enough heat, enough space around each piece on the rack, enough exposure on all sides. Roasting pecans is just like that. Done right, a roasted pecan tastes wonderful and has fantastic health benefits. Low temperatures (160-1700 F) are ideal since higher temperatures destroy the pecan’s unsaturated fats. All it takes is 15 to 20 minutes to roast the nuts and enhance their natural sweetness.
And just as there is a correct way to roast pecans, there are also the best recipes from the variety of ways to roast pecans. Roasting pecans can run from as short as 5 to ten minutes to over 2 hours of slow roasting.
The simplest way to have roasted pecans is to simply put the pecans in a single layer on a baking pan and put it in the oven for 5 to 10 minutes. You can spray the pecan nuts with a little soy sauce to enhance the flavor.
You can also bake the pecans in the oven after sprinkling them with salt. Keep them inside for 20 minutes. Once the pecan nuts begin to brown, take them from the oven. Add about 1 tablespoon of margarine or butter to the roasted pecans and stir well.
For those who want spicier roasted pecan nuts, melt 1 stick of butter. Add 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire, ¼ teaspoon celery salt, ¼ teaspoon season all, ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper, ¼ teaspoon onion salt, and ¼ garlic and salt to the butter. Stir until all the spices are blended thoroughly. Add 2 quarts of pecan halves and stir in until coated with the sauce. Bake in a shallow roasting pan at 2500 for 1 hour. Pour out and drain on paper towels. Salt the roasted pecans lightly.
You can also make old-fashioned roasted pecans. Preheat the oven to 2250 F. Spray some oil on your baking pan. Combine 1 egg white and 1 tablespoon of water in a mixing bowl. Beat this mixture until fluffy. Add 2 ¼ cups of pecan halves and fold in. Mix ½ cup of white sugar, ¼ teaspoon of salt, and 1 ½ teaspoons of ground cinnamon in a shaker. Sprinkle over the pecans. Place the pecans in the oven until toasted.
Eating roasted pecans is healthy since they provide you with more than 19 vitamins and minerals. Roasted pecans, when prepared the right way, retain the ‘good’ fat which was found to lower cholesterol levels. They are also a good source of protein and fiber. Pecans have one of the highest anti-oxidant activity levels among the common nuts like walnut and almond. There is no end to the benefits you can obtain from eating roasted pecans.

Great Family Inn at Marsh Harbor Abaco Bahamas

Escape to Great Abaco Island and stay at the Lofty Fig Villas, ideal for a family vacation, and it’s not too expensive, so take the chance to investigate
There are six villas at Lofty Fig Villas, in three single storey buildings around a small freshwater pool, and that is the bare facts of the place, but immediately you start to investigate further you will realise what a great family inn Lofty Fig Villas is, a superb base for a family vacation on Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas. Insofar as Marsh Harbour is concerned Lofty Fig Villas is about at the epicentre
To return to the description, each building that houses the villas is painted in island yellow with aqua trim. Each of the villas comes with a fully equipped kitchen, queen bed, sofa, and a dining table.
The kitchen has a full size fridge and freezer, and importantly the air conditioning works, and works well.
Cable TV, even a proper bath, and daily housekeeping service, and if you cannot stay away, there is also internet access in the office.
Right next to the pool is a gazebo which is very handy as shade, with a secondary role as the place for the family barbeque. All around you are well maintained grounds strewn with multicoloured flowers, plants and coconut trees.
The comments from other guests who have stayed at the Lofty Fig Villas are always very important, and the one thing to note is that there is hardly one negative thing said. One of the consistent themes is that guests only disliked having to leave.
Other remarks, and they are obviously true because so many people have reiterated it, is that you might be a guest but you are made to really feel part of the family. The Lofty Fig Villas seems to work for family groups, couples, or families with children. Everyone agrees that the owner Sid is awesome, in fact a legend might be a better description.
The next question is what exactly does everyone do on a family vacation on Great Abaco Island, staying at the Lofty Fig Villas.
The answer is probably not a lot, and for the first few days you’ll probably have gone to the big grocery store over the road, and got in supplies, so you can barbeque by the pool, walk to Marsh Harbour over the street and watch the sun go down and drink a cocktail, or just sit on your patio and watch the world go by.
Having unwound, you’ll want to go to the beach, and Mermaid Beach is about a pleasant mile walk away. A tip here is to bring your own snorkelling gear.
It would be fair to say that Marsh harbour is kind of a stopping off place. Boats come in and out all the time to pick up supplies, so you’ll probably want to do some exploring of Great Abaco Island. Taxis are expensive and limiting so you’ll need to rent a car. Beware the island is a great deal bigger than you think.
You’ll find some good places to eat, however they aren’t cheap, but you have to remember that outer islands in the Bahamas have to import virtually everything, but you’ll find the seafood very fresh.
Leaving the best reasons to stay at Lofty Fig Villas to last it appears that experienced travellers in and around the Bahamas swear blind that it is easily the best for comfort and value.
